It might seem like certain individuals are almost superhuman or more capable than others in certain ways. It’s like they can accomplish things easier than most, as if they have some kind of upperhand. You might argue that they actually do have an advantage; that is knowing the secret to mental strength. They understand what mental strength REALLY is and how we apply it to achieve the things we desire.
THE SECRETS TO MENTAL STRENGTH
You have to commit to getting out of your comfort zone
You are not always going to be doing things that feel comfortable. Within reason, you must grow comfortable with being uncomfortable. True change and growth happens outside of the comfort zone. Once you accept this fundamental truth, it is a heck of a lot easier stepping out of our predictable life and into the possibility of the unknown.
Things aren’t always fun when you start… but that isn’t a reason to give up
So often, we start a new project, sport or workout routine because we are eager for whatever benefits it will add to our lives. Unfortunately, those first two or ten tries might not be what we originally envisioned right away. We might not be the fastest runner on the trail or most agile snowboarder when we first start, but we must work up to these things. Practicing patience and grace with ourselves is absolutely one of the biggest secrets of the mentally strong. They know to never give up before the magic happens.
It’s scary to be strong sometimes
Being strong, or brave for that matter, does not mean you aren’t absolutely terrified sometimes, and that is nothing to be ashamed of. Maybe you haven’t stepped foot in the gym for quite a while and are going back in for the first time. It is absolutely okay to be afraid. What isn’t okay is to let that fear hold you back from what it is you are working to accomplish in the first place. Mental strength isn’t about never feeling fear. It is about not letting that fear be a barrier, and pushing through it anyways.
You already have all that it takes within you
The most important secret of the mentally strong is being aware that all the strength you could possibly need is already within you. The unshakeable belief in YOURSELF will get you much further than anyone else ever could. Know that you CAN, and you WILL succeed at whatever you decide to work towards.
Affirm your mental strength daily
We understand that some of these things may be easier said than done, so consider affirming an attitude of strength regularly to make it so. Not necessarily a “fake it ‘til you make it” approach but more of a “Believe it until you receive it” mindset.
Consider writing or saying some of these affirmations daily to shift your perspective to one of strength:
- I am strong.
- I have all that I need and more to accomplish my dreams.
- I am walking through my fear.
- I am unstoppable.
- I can do hard things.
