We can’t stress it enough….The hard work you put in at the gym is imperative to reaching your fitness goals, but you are only in the gym two to seven hours out of the week. What you do outside of the gym is just as important, if not more than what you do inside of the gym. If you are serious about losing fat and gaining muscle then it is time to get serious about your recovery and prehab too. Foam rollers are used for self-myofascial release, a very effective technique that involves applying gentle, sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions. This is a great way to increase mobility, reduce soreness, prevent injury and stimulate muscle growth. Setting aside even fifteen minutes at the beginning or end of your day is sure to increase your range of motion and allow you to frequent the gym more often.

If you have kids, if you travel, work inconsistent/long hours, or are just plain busy with life, it can be difficult to make it into the gym as many times as you would like to each week. The good news is, you don’t need to go to the gym every time you want a good workout. On days that seem impossible to get to the gym, you can still work up a sweat and hit the goals you and your trainer have set for you at home. One of the most useful tools you can have for a full body workout in your house are resistance bands. From shoulders, to core, to glutes, you can still get your workout in. Tracking your food intake for a period of time with a food scale is important to determine meal macronutrient content and calorie count. This can be an excellent learning experience! Food scales are a great way to keep your portions consistent if you prep your food for the week. They allow you to be specific with your nutrition coach about how much food you are consuming so that they can adequately advise you on meeting your goals. If we aren’t accurately measuring what we eat, we are just guessing. Good food scales are inexpensive and easy to come by, at retailers like Target and Amazon. Tracking and measuring food for long periods of time can be time consuming, but definitely a valuable exercise in the short term.
